Overview

The Cathar’s Trail MTB is a linear route, almost 260 km long and with over 9000 m of positive slope, transversly crossing the Eastern Pyrenees, from the Queralt Sanctuary in Berga to the Occitan city of Montségur.

It is a true challenge, split into 7 stages, following a both physically and tecnhically demanding itinerary, only fit for experienced MTB or e-bike cyclists.

Leave it in our hands: lodgings, meals, luggage transport, return to the outing point… We take care of everything you need!

Remember, however, that we’ll be cycling through the Pyrenees. In fact, we will cross them northwards, meaning we must overcome great altitud differences and mind the climatology.

Our proposal of the Cathars’ Trail by MTB follows variants that do not fully match the pedestrian trail, GR 107, marked with the white and red marks.

If you think you can do it in less stages, don’t hesitate and contact us, we’ll make you a custom budget!

Stage 1 Berga - Gósol
Stage 1 Berga - Gósol

43km +1550m -1200m First stage through lonely landscapes showing the remains of a mining past. This stage leaves behind the Central Catalunya to get into the Pre-Pyrenees, and it makes obvious the toughness of this challenge from the beginning.

Stage 2 Gósol - Bagà
Stage 2 Gósol - Bagà

35km +800m -1450m Short stage combining dirt roads with paved roads, and avoiding the original GR 107 path which runs through the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. The beautiful views and and amazing end of stage add interest to the route.

Stage 3 Bagà - Prullans de Cerdanya
Stage 3 Bagà - Prullans de Cerdanya

45km +1500m -1250m The crossing from Berguedà to Cerdanya by Coll de Pal is quite a challenge by itself. It requires good physical –and psycological– condition to face the almost 1400 m of continuous ascent between Bagà and Coll de Pal.

Stage 4 Prullans de Cerdanya - Porta
Stage 4 Prullans de Cerdanya - Porta

36.5km +900m -300m Ascending stage, with 900 m of positive slope and just 300 m of negative slope. However, it is also a pleasant one, since most of the trail skirts the Segre and Carol rivers.

Stage 5 Porta - Mérens-Les-Vals
Stage 5 Porta - Mérens-Les-Vals

24.2km +850m -1030m On this fifth day we face a both physically and technically demanding stage, only fit for seasoned cyclist who don't mind dragging the bike on some long ascending stretches.

Stage 6 Mérens-Les-Vals - Ascou
Stage 6 Mérens-Les-Vals - Ascou

36.2km +1250m -2000m This one is a both physically and technically demanding stage, only fit for seasoned cyclist who don't mind dragging the bike on some long ascending stretches.

Stage 7 Ascou - Montségur
Stage 7 Ascou - Montségur

38km +1450m -1100m This stretch is rather physical than technical, having two long climbs and then a descent from Roc de Quercourt to Montaillou, that will leave a good taste in our mouths. We will also pass through the Gorges de la Frau, which will delight us.
