Overview

4 stages  – Mid-high level

This is the most equilibrated proposal. The mileage, slopes, and stretches of technical difficulty are better distributed; it allows to fully enjoy the route and it leaves you time to visit the towns at the end of each stage. It is advisable to hire the luggage transport service.

Stage 1: Bagà -Tuixent 53km / 1.745m+ / 1.365m- / ***

Km on pavement: 11 km / Km on dirt road: 38 km / Km on path: 4 km

Water: fountains in Coll de la Bena, Josa de Cadí, and Cornellana.

Provisioning: this stage has no services on the route. It is recommended to be self-suficient. From Coll de la Balma (km 15) you can descend on the dirt road to the chapel of Verge de Gresolet and the Gresolet shelter, where you can provide food (ATTENTION!!! This detour is 2,5 km long and has 275 m of negative slope, that you'll have to climb later to return to Coll de la Balma). In Molí de Fórnols (km 48), you'll find a bar-restaurant.

Villages: Bagà, Josa de Cadí, Cornellana, Fórnols, Molí de Fórnols, Tuixent.

Way out: km 29, Josa de Cadí. In case of bad weather or fatigue, you can easily reach Tuixent by the paved road, entering town through the first diversion at left.

Stage 2: Tuixent – Arsèguel 57 km / 2.020m+ / 2.350m- / ***

Km on pavement: 7 km / Km on dirt road: 38 km / Km on path: 12 km

Water: it is important to stuck up on water, since you won't find any until you reach Cerc.

Provisioning: it is recommended to be self- sufficient on the route. There is, however, a bar-restaurant in Alàs (km 43).

Villages: Tuixent, Molí de Fórnols, Fórnols, Cerc, Alàs, Arsèguel.

Way out: km 43, Alàs. In case of bad weather or fatigue, you can follow the paved road N-260 heading down to Puigcerdà, until you reach the Arsèguel intersection (km 8). Once there, you can ascend 2 km to the town, or continue towards Bany de Sant Vicenç (km 9). ATTENTION! It's a very busy road!

Stage 3: Arsèguel – Bellver 49 km/ 1.600m+/ 1.430m- / ***

Km on pavement: 8 km / Km on dirt road: 36 km / Km on path: 5 km

Water: In El Querforadat, Montellà, Nas, and Pi, but not on the road.

Provisioning: in Martinet (km 26, after a 0,5 km detour), where you'll find a bakery, bars-restaurants and grocery stores.

Villages: Arsèguel, El Querforadat, Béixec, Montellà, Nas, Pi, Bellver de Cerdanya.

Way out: km 26, starting point of the dirt road heading to Prat d'Aguiló and the Ridolaina valley. In case of bad weather or fatigue, you can follow the paved road towards Santa Eugènia de Nerellà, then continue through the road in direction to Pi, and then take a dir road that will take you directly to Bellver de Cerdanya.

Stage 4: Bellver – Bagà 64 km / 1.950m+ / 2.170m- /***

Km on pavement: 23 km / Km on dir road: 41 km

Water: In the mountain shelters, in Riu, and in Urús.

Provisioning: You can provide food at the shelters of Cortals de l'Ingla (km 11), Serrat de les Esposes (km 20), and Rebost (km 52).

Villages: Bellver, Riu, Urús, Das, Bagà.

Way out: In case of bad weather or fatigue. At the beginning of the stage (km 2,6) you can continue to Coborriu and, by a dirt road, get to Bor. Therefrom, by a paved road, you can reach Pedra and, then, Riu, where you reattach to the trail at the 27th km of the stage. IMPORTANT: DO NOT go to Vall d'Ingla, Coll de la Trapa or the dirt roads at Serrat de les Esposes.
